Confessions of a Stay-at-home-mom

In my head, I'm the mom who hosts awesome playdates. I serve a healthy-yet-fun lunch. I have a craft or cooking project planned. All the kids love me and want to hang out, just chatting. I play and come up with great ideas. Coming to my house is the best.
In reality, I usually wave to Caroline's friends as they come in the door and disappear upstairs. If they come down asking for a snack, I throw some grapes in a bowl. A couple of hours later when it is time to go home, I call the friend down and, if they are lucky, help them find their stuff. I love playdates because, despite the fact that my house will be TRASHED, I'm usually guaranteed a few kid-free hours to do as I like. Yep, I'm lazy like that.
Caroline's preschool bff gave her an adorable cooking kit for her birthday, complete with apron, child-sized utensils, and baking mixes. I thought it would be fun to invite that same friend over for some baking and a movie this week. So we did. It was my chance to be S-A-H Super Mom!!!
The truth of the matter, however, is that the girls came home from preschool with some crazy plan about catching fairies. They took 2 bites of the lunch I made and then spent the next two hours designing, creating, and implementing their fairy houses. As the time for A's mom to pick her up inched nearer, I finally begged them to bake with me. They did, half-heartedly, and then returned to their imaginary world. We never even got around to the movie.
Lesson learned? Kids would rather have unstructured playdates and I can go back to my lazy ways. HUZZAH!!!!!
